NAVASOTA BLUES FEST
In memory of Mance Lipscomb, Songster
After twenty one years of presenting authentic blues music and Navasota High School scholarships, the Navasota Blues Fest is taking a break.
After many meetings to discuss options, goals and the future of the festival, the Board of Directors has decided that the Navasota Blues Fest will not put on a festival this year.
There are many reasons for this including increasing costs, especially talent; funding decreases; and challenges of attracting and retaining over 75-90 volunteers, who work an estimated 1675 hours each year (this figure includes not only Fest weekend, but many hours in the months leading up to that weekend.
The Board of Directors will use this off year to explore restructuring the festival and address the challenges of attracting stable and increased funding.
There may be the possibility of putting on a smaller event during the scheduled weekend of the festival this year – August 11-12.
The Board has made it clear that, no matter what happens this year, primary and continuing scholarships will be awarded.
We are open for suggestions for restructuring and, of course, new funding avenues.
